Roses 201 at Schmidt’s Farm & Greenhouse

This Rose 201 class has been designed for intermediate to advanced rose growers. It will be offered on Saturday, February 21 at 10 am -noon at Schmidt’s Farm and Greenhouse. (We will offer a Rose 101 class for beginners on March 7 at their nursery.) Schmidt’s has asked that you pre register using the link below due to space concerns. Schmidt’s has over 500 roses in stock for this season. So many colors, forms and sizes to choose among.
There will be a large climbing rose to demonstrate how to train on a trellis, arch, or obelisk. This is the only location for 2026 that will have a live climbing rose for demonstration thus far.
The ROSE 201 curriculum will include:
- Companion plants
- How to train a climber
- Advanced pruning
- Disease
- Soil test
- When and what to fertilize (organic vs synthetic)
- Pest
- Winterization
- How to help a struggling rose
- Playing detective
- Maintenance levels. What is the annual must do vs. optional tasks when my time and energy are limited, what do I prioritize?
- Recommended fertilizing products and schedules for newer vs established roses.
- Month by month calendar of To Do’s for care.
- Tricks to wake plants from dormancy
- Q and A
